It is believed that the service sector's function in today's economy is becoming more
crucial. It is responsible for almost two-thirds of the employment and GDP in the United
Kingdom and elsewhere in the world. While transport services form one of the strong pillars
of any economy, studies on innovation management are critical. Since the introduction of
bike sharing in London in 2010, many innovations and inventions have been made to the
system. Mattlamy (2019) argues that several Public Bike Share schemes exist in different UK
cities like London, Oxford, and Sheffield. These schemes play an essential role in the
development and expansion of the industry.
The general objective of this research work will be to evaluate how bike-sharing
system innovations can be managed to make the industry sustainable. Some research
questions include: How do the different types of innovation impact the London bike sharing
industry? To what extent does the innovation novelty impact London's bike-sharing system?
Does the innovation generation process influence the bike-sharing industry's level of
convenience and effectiveness in London? Do the innovations have economic congruence
with London's bike sharing industry?
While this study aims to fill some knowledge gaps in the innovation management of
the service sectors in the United Kingdom, it also seeks to unveil the different
entrepreneurship opportunities in this industry. The bike-sharing industry in Landon is indeed
a young industry that needs to be made more formal to increase its sustainability. This
research will be very important to the policymakers to develop policies that regulate the
industry to make it sustainable. Additionally, by looking at the bike-sharing industry in
London through innovation management, the risk of outdated industry trends would be
eliminated.
